It is love at first sight and they soon go on their first, very stereotypical country, date filled with a picnic basket and all. On the way back from said date, they happen to come by a man who’s stuck in a car on fire and bring him to a hospital.
Luke and Sophia soon realize it would not be worth it to start a relationship because she leaves for an internship at a famous art gallery in New York in two months and Luke must concentrate on his professional life.
Sophia returns every day to the hospital to visit the old man, Ira, to read him letters that he sent his wife while he was away at war in the 1940’s. They befriend each other and Ira guides Sophia through life with his own tragic, romantic stories of the love of his life.
